THE SWEDISH ARMED FORCES ENTERTAINERS

On 13 November 2016, the Swedish Armed Forces Entertainers (Försvarets Fältartister) held an anniversary show at the Scala Theatre in Stockholm to celebrate their 60th anniversary. The concert was also a tribute to the veterans who had served on overseas missions since 1956, the very year in which the organisation was founded.

The Swedish Peace Archives holds photographs taken by veterans during the visits and performances given by various entertainers over the years. The photographs show just how greatly these visits were appreciated by those serving abroad. They provided a welcome break from everyday routines and, during difficult times, an opportunity to focus on something positive. The commitment shown by the Armed Forces Entertainers was also an expression of appreciation and respect for the service and sacrifices of those deployed overseas.

Below are photographs from one of the better-documented visits by the Armed Forces Entertainers. The year was 1962, when Britt Damberg, Git Skiöld, Leppe Sundevall, Åke Ejemo and Jan Franzén visited the Swedish UN Battalion in the Congo.
